How should I start a permaculture garden?

I just read an article in Yoga magazine and was inspired to start my own permaculture garden but have no clue how to. Websites would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Lanie,

You're asking about how to start a permaculture garden. I warmly, warmly recommend a book where an American woman travels to Australia (the birthplace of permaculture) and lives on a permaculture farm where she starts a garden in the middle of snakes, leeches, rain.... She doesn't go very deep into permaculture as she travels all around the world on a shoestring, but it is a funny, touching, inspiring read. Part adventure travel, part life change, and a really really good vibe. I smiled throughout and wished it wouldn't end. You can see the reviews on Amazon.

Here's one bit about permaculture from that book.
"One example of a permaculture principle: the problem is the solution. Problem: the deer are eating my garden. Solution: eat the deer. Problem: slugs are eating my garden. Solution: ???

Her adventures on that farm are really funny.

You also ask about websites. The biggest permaculture resource is permaculture.org.au. That is where I would start. From there, there are lots of friendly little sites. For instance, in Australia, jerrapark.com, a permaculture farm. In fact, I would say that the best way to learn about permaculture gardening, if you have the time, would be to travel to Australia, where there are all these permaculture farms where you can volunteer under the program called wwoofing. The same kind of volunteering also exists in the States, particularly in Washington state, Oregon, North Carolina and Western Colorado.

Wishing you a beautiful garden (and weekend),

Lenny

Is there a way to make my flowers bloom faster?? and Bradford Pear Bloom

Is there a way to make my flowers bloom faster??

I am getting married in a week and a half. My Chrysanthemums that I am using for my wedding have a lot of buds on them that are showing color but I am worried that they will not be in full bloom for my wedding. Is there any way I can speed up the blooming process?
I am not cutting them. I am using the big potted plants. It is an outside wedding.
I am sorry. I just realized that my question posted twice for some reason.

Do you remove only the little socket that the flower bloomed from or do you remove the whole stem that contains that socket?

I have a hibiscus and I don't deadhead the plant at all. I wait until it completely flowers and then I cut the plant in the fall to about 1 foot from the ground.

When should I start planting in my outside garden? and Garden District

When should I start planting in my outside garden?

I live in Southwest Michigan and I am a freshly turned vegetarian. I think it would be beneficial for my health a little bit. My father used to garden when we first moved in, and we have a large, long spot. I was just curious when is a good time to start planting and what I should be planting.

Way to many variables, I live in the north and already have Brussel Sprouts outside (they can handle frost) but tomatos will not see the outdoors until well into spring. Some plants can tollerate/enjoy cold weather and frost while some need warm/hot weather and zero frost.

Best answer, get a book and read up on the plants specific likes and dislikes. As for what you can grow, probably anything, plant what you like to eat and dont plant what you wouldnt eat.

The Garden District in New Orleans has one of the best collections of Victorian architecture anywhere. All the iron fences and greenery add to the neighborhood's character, and most of the District is listed as a National Historic Landmark.

Flowers worked onto a canvas texture. Only two luminosity mask layers of the original photo were used. The fascinating technique to work with luminosity masks i have learned from the wonderful tutorial of Tony Kuyper.

Don't attend to the exif data, they are wrong here as i used an old 50mm Nikkor f1.4 lense with adapter ring.
