Answer by VINCE
Because they are so successful in their fruitation little research is available on their pollination strategy per se. However, some species among the dwarf varieties are verified as self pollinating. The Coconut Palms have flowers that are polygamomonoecious. The male and the female flowers are born on the same flower bundles or inflorescence. Usually, the flowers arranged in this configuration don't pollinate within the bundle. It is believed generally, that they are wind pollinated. If they are pollinated by insects , mammals, birds, or spiders there isn't any definitive articles I've heard of. Our Maple trees are wind fertilized, but will take the pollination of insects. They usually flower too early for insects. The wide spread spacing of the palm trees in isolated islands etc would suggest they would have had to be wind/self pollinators to continue the species or brought their pollinators with them..

Sporobolus cryptandrus
inflorescence

The inflorescence is often mostly or entirely included within the leaf sheath. The flag leaf can be very conspicuous especially in a dense stand where this leaf has a similar size and direction of orientation.
