Flower ideas for my yard...?

Hey what's a good tall flower I could use in a narrow flower bed along the side of my house? It gets full sun to partial shade. I want something that will flower most of the summer, and was thinking of maybe hollyhocks but I've never planted them before so I was hoping you guys can help me out. I want something that can withstand a thunderstorm and high winds without blowing over. Thanks for the help!
