With the right liquid fertilizer balanced in your water your flowers will do much better seeing the ground in many places is lacking what they need. Nitrogen is one of the biggest lack that plants need which is why they grow half the size they normally do, and phosphorus as well which promotes blooms and strong roots, and Potash as well which helps produce fruit at it's season. Your plants will still grow without these things, just not as well. Your soil will also need aged compost worked into it once in a while as your plants need it. Aged black manure does wonders for all plants which is what I been using for years in my garden. Only thing left is to keep your plants pest free from insects.
