How can I prevent birds from eating peach tree blossoms?

If it's not the weather, it's the birds! Last year I noticed birds (sparrows, I think) eating the blossoms--not the fruit of our peach tree. Only about 10 peaches appeared and then the birds ate those when they were still quite small. What can I do?

Hang up shiny aluminium pie plates in the tree. The movement of them in the breeze will scare them away.
