What is a better way to phrase " a flower that doesnt bloom"?



i need it for my english essay.. is it unblooming flower ? unblossoming flower?? any suggestions please, and it shouldn't sound stupid its for my essay

This is part of a silk floss tree, Ceiba speciosa, growing next to the mall in El Cajon, San Diego County, USA. See here for Wikipedia article. I thank bslatner (see comment below) for correcting my identification.

The tree is in the same genus as kapok, Ceiba pentandra, but is not the same. The silk floss tree is grown as an ornamental in southern California.

I have previously posted photos of the fruit, bark, the thorns, and the flower, all close-up -- see the silk floss tree set that this belongs to -- and will post a couple additional photos of this, or similar trees, over the next couple of days.
