Southern gardeners: a question about myrtle trees? Can the blossoms be picked the way I used to pick lilacs?

I think the myrtles in bloom right now are stunningly lovely and would be gorgeous indoor floral decoration. I do not wish to harm the trees. Can I cut the blossoms? Do they last or will they die immediately?

You wouldn't harm the trees by cutting the blooms, but the blooms themselves will die almost immediately.

Better off to leave them right where they are...beautifully blanketing your myrtle tree with color.

We are finally seeing some signs of spring in north Texas. The Bradford Pear trees are in full blossom now. Photo taken in Grapevine, Texas on March 14, 2010. Please View Large
