How to treat algae bloom in freshwater aquarium?

About 3 weeks ago there was an algae bloom in my aquarium. It's so dark I can't see the fish. I tried changing half of the water and putting Jungle algae tablets in, but it didn't work. The tank is near a window so I think it's because of the sunlight. How can I get the water clear again?

I wouldn't use chemicals.

Limit lights, and do 15% water changes every few days, and limit feedings.
