Blooming Cosmic Inferno
bloom

The artist (that's him in the background) controlled this flaming comet-like orb which sputtered, smoked, flamed, burned, and belched in disturbing but enthralling ways. Meant to symbolize an apocalyptic event, this was one of the coolest things to see at the Maker Faire. I wish I had written down the artists name, as my picture of the sign explaining his work didn't turn out. If you know, please comment.

[update]Thanks to L. Marie in the comments, I can confirm that this is in fact the description I remember:

"This sputtering, popping, droning sculpture resembles a biomechanical ember of a planet sprouting tentacles tipped with multicolored, fiery blooms. Evan Tracy hopes to express an idea of apocalyptic transformation/revolution/rebirth in an industrial medium which reflects the modes and materials of the excessive, decaying culture."
