Why is love often compared to flowers in poetry when all flowers wither and die inevitably? and Flowers (Holga Macro)

Why is love often compared to flowers in poetry when all flowers wither and die inevitably?

It's as though the poet believes the love with eventually die off. To say that the flower's death is the equivalent of the speaker's death would be incorrect as the speaker doesn't compare his self to the flower.
Will love die before the death of the couple? Is this what the poets attempt to get at?
