Settle the debate: What is a coconut (10 points for best answer)?

Okay, I am in a debate with a roommate. She insists that a Coconut is a fruit, but I insist that a coconut is a nut. I know that it is at least a seed because if planted in the right soil with the right moisture, it will grow. Yet like I said, she insists its still a fruit. Can anybody settle this debate?

It is a seed, you are correct.

I don't know what the person below me is trying to say at all, terrible post. But anyhow, some people call it a fruit, some call it a nut. It has properties that can be related to either, but in reality, it is just a seed. It is not a true nut or fruit.

My favorite wall basket made from natural self-gathered materials harvested on the Florida Gulf Coast.

The body of the basket is woven primarily from the inflorescence stems of the Queen Palm (cocos plumosa), with accents of black and cocoa brown-dyed round reed.

The handle is wild grapevine attached at each side with a God's Eye woven of flat reed.

The basket measures 14" wide x 16" high x 6" deep. It has never been used; it has only been displayed.
