Why do flower petals die and fall off but the stems seem fine?
My step-father got my mom flowers for Valentine's day, except now the flower petals are starting to fall off and die, but the stem seems perfectly fine, why is that?

Basically, it is because there are very strong cellulose fibers in the stem, but not in the petals. Those stems can last for hundreds of years because of those fibers.
