Will it stunt my marigold plants to cut the blossoms from the top?

My marigold flowers appear to fill up with little black bugs, they don't go anywhere else in the garden, just stay on the marigold flowers. They pick the older, bigger top blossoms. It's gotten to the point where they actually overwhelm the flower and it's just nasty. I've started getting rid of the overwhelmed flowers to try and quell the infestation. Is cutting off these blossoms going to stunt the growth of the plant?

This is from my garden. It is a pineapple guava blossom, also known as a guavasteen or feijoa. The fruit is delicious with a sweet aromatic flavor.
