What is the name of the sticky weed common in the south that leaves little green balls stuck to your pants...?
...and shoelaces? I heard a British chick call them 'Sticky _____', I just can't remember what the second word was.
This weed is common in the Southern U.S. .

I can think of two plants with seeds that fit your description, although I don't know eiter of them as "Sticky ___". But it could just be there's a different common name for them in Great Britain, or in the southern US.
The two I'm thinking of are enchanter's nightshade (Circaea spp.): http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=CILUC - note the fruit at the bottom of this inflorescence

and bedstraws (Galium sp.), although not all have fruits which will stick, some are smooth). I did fing one called stickywilly, so maybe that is your plant: http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=GAAP2
