Is there any way to tell whether a Mulberry sapling/sprout is male or female before it's old enough to flower?
I've researched the issue, and I know you can tell male from female after the plants have flowered by the type of flower.. but is there anyway to tell before they are old/large enough to flower?
I know that many fruit trees contain both male and female parts on the same tree, but Mulberrys are dioecious.
http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/1000/1059.html Sexes in Ornamental Plants states...
"In dioecious plants [Including Mulberrys], male flowers appear on one plant and female flowers on another."
