What can I expect to pay for flowers for the chapel?

We are getting married in a year and I would prefer to use real flowers for the aisle decorations. We decided on Mason Jars filled with wild flowers and brown wire to tie it to each bench end. How much can I expect to pay for 14 small wild flower bouquets?

flower best answer:

Answer by Texas Lise
You should post your question again using 'wedding' in the first line so that it will appear in Weddings instead of in Gardens & Landscape. Also check with the chapel to find out if they will allow wire to be used on the pews; it would probably scratch the wood. As far as using wildflowers, I don't think florists sell them as they don't hold up well in bouquets. You could get these flowers to get a 'country' look: Gerbera Daisies, Shasta daisies, Sunflowers, some of the smaller flowered mums and babysbreath.

how do I use crop rotation in an herb garden?

I'm desinging an herb garden but can't seem to find any information on using crop rotation practices with my annual herbs.
This is a small garden, 27' by 29' with a winding pathway, so the beds are all different sizes and irregular shapes. I'm designing it for a school project and the information I've come up with so far points to not really needing to use crop rotation for herb, but the assignment asks for a rotation scheme.

Garden best answer:

Answer by Lori K
hmmmm...I've never rotated any of my herbs, but as my herb garden is fairly small 6'x6', I add organic compost every year. I haven't had any problems in the past 10 years.

The Eden Gardens stadium just before the beginning of the Indian Premier League match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings, on the 18th of May, 2008.

Knight Riders captain Saurav Ganguly won the toss and decided to bat first, much to the jubilation of the some 80000-strong crowd. But as has been the trend of the Knight Riders in this inaugural IPL tournament, the batting failed to fire once again. Only Salman Butt gave something to cheer in his 54-ball-73 as the Knights managed an under-par 149/5 in their 20 overs.

The crowd hoped of some repetition of the fiery bowling of Shoaib Akhtar that had sent the Delhi Daredevils packing in the last match at Eden. But nothing such happened and the Super Kings were cruising happily along when the Nor-Westers accompanied by thundershowers came and put an end to the game. The dropped catch of Parthiv Patel by Ashok Dinda off Ajit Agarkar finally turned out to be the decisive factor as the Super Kings won the match by 3 runs in the Duckworth-Lewis method.

In the end, it was a dejected walk back home for the ever-enthusiastic crowd as their team lost out yet again in a close match and are now virtually out of contention for the semifinals of IPL '08.

Still Eden Gardens rocks, and we are proud of the best stadium in India and one of the best in the world.

Garden best answer:

Answer by Pri10
I took a look on your question about if YA was working and I felt a little bad so I wanted to help (i'm studying interior design)....

Mediterranian style is about the power of the sun...you have to make that space warm...

The main hard landscape materials are:
Stone, concrete and ceramics
Timber is also occasionally used
Metal is rarely used

The predominant colours have a sunbleached look:
White, or earthy shades such as terracotta and sandstone are popular.
Splashes of bright colours such as brilliant blues are used for contrast.

Typically these gardens don't have lawns (or only small patches of lawn). Lawns need lots of water in summer, which is the driest time of year in most Mediterranean climates. Instead ground surfaces are paved or covered with gravel.

Best plants for mediterranian atyle:
1.Olives
2.Citrus
3.Lavender
4.Gazanias
5.Rosemary
6.Roses
7.Geraniums
8.Cistus
9.Grapes
10.Bay tree
11.lilac
12.Cypress
13.Pomegranates
14.Oleanders

inflorescence best answer:

The genes are linked on the same chromosome and are 22cM units apart. This means there will be 22% recombinant offspring and 78% parental offspring.

Parental = oval/compound = 39. And round/simple = 39.
Recombinant = oval/simple = 11. And round/compound = 11.

Has anybody heard of a corpse flower on display currently?

Latin name: amorphophallus titanum (giant shapeless penis), the largest inflorescence in existence, with the scent of rotten meat.
It's quite an impressive sight, the "flower" part being like 6 feet high, surrounded by a purple skirt, and smelling like a corpse.
I saw one some years ago at a botanical garden, and everybody came in saying "Where's the flower?" In the botanical garden! LOL It had thousands of flowers! But the "stinky flower" was the one everybody wanted to see.
So, If there is one on display not too far from me, I'd like to visit it.

Unidentified Plant in my garden.?

It hasn't flowered yet, but the inflorescence is a dense raceme.
The plant is very unusual in appearance. It is herbaceous, with no woody growth, but it has shot up to about 8 feet tall in just this Spring. The stalk is thick. The leaves are very large (10") on long stalks, lobed with an oak-like shape. All leaves are on the stem, none are basal. The whole plant is blue-green (although this may be a powdery bloom), the undersides of the leaves are white-wooly.
(It is not a large angelica or cow parsnip. The whole plant is almost blue in color.)
Thanks for the help folks. I finally found out what it is! It's Macleaya microcarpa, the Plume Poppy.
The Wild Lettuce answer was not far off - same family I think. And Burdock, I suppose can get that tall, but it's not exactly blueish. Also, this has only stem leaves, no basal leaves, while burdock is all basal leaves. Thanks everyone!

Is irrigation water ok to use on a vegetable garden?

We have culinary water for our house and secondary (irrigation) water for our sprinkler system in our lawn. We recently installed a spigot next to our garden that feeds off the irrigation water, sprinkler system. We thought it would be cheaper to use the irrigation water on the garden because we water so much, but now I've heard that irrigation water can be hazardous to use on vegetable that we will be eating. Is this true?

Garden best answer:

Answer by physics guy
Only if you are near a major fertilizer maker or other dangerous chemical manufacturer. Such as pesticides, etc. Irrigation water is excellent for watering gardens, but I would recommend having at least tested two years in a row for dangerous chemicals. If it turns up clean two years in a row, it's a pretty safe bet you are o.k.

b/ have your fertilized them? They should be fertilized starting in January on a monthly basis.

d/ what is ph of your soil. Azaleas like an acid soil. check it

What do u have to do to start an indoor herb garden?

I have never really gardened much at all or potted a plant for that matter but my thumb is "itching" to start somewhere and I want to start an indoor herb garden. Help!

Garden best answer:

Answer by sptfyr
The most important thing to have when starting an indoor herb garden is lots of light. You will need a sunny window because most herbs love the sun and need all the light they can get. You can keep each herb in their own pot or you can pot several herbs together which creates a nice full potted plant look. Some popular herbs are basil, parsley, oregano, and Thyme. However, there are many herbs to choose from based on you own personal preferences.
Good Luck

why do my hydrangea leaves look purple and green?

inflorescence best answer:

Answer by texas girl
It's because hydrangeas are very sensitive to acid levels in your soil. Different acidity levels result in different colored petals. For instance, the same periwinkle-blue hydrangea plant that my aunt grew in Kentucky, grew green and pink in Texas.

There's nothing wrong with your plant; it's simply an acidity indicator.

No, they don't grow their "petals" back. The flower of a sunflower is actually many individual flowers........called an inflorescence. The outer flowers on the sunflower are the ray flowers or florets and can be yellow, maroon, orange, or other colors. These flowers are sterile. The flowers that fill the circular head inside the ray flowers are called disc florets.

I am searching for a white rose that blooms in late summer. I am planting my garden so that I will have flowers from spring until late autumn, and I need a late-summer blooming rose to round out my garden. Any suggestions?

The brightest, pure white hybrid tea rose is called JFK. There is also a Pope John Paul II tea rose, not quite as white, and a Princess Caroline of Monaco hybrid tea, still not quite as white as the Pope John Paul II... Any hybrid tea rose will bloom all season long if you keep clipping off the dead roses, peaking at the end of the season completely covered with blooms.

inflorescence best answer:

Answer by rhythm
Here's what I found for you.
Question - Does a pineapple has seeds? if there are, where?
---------------------------------------
Although known for its fruit (yes, they have seeds), pineapples are usually propagated by new vegetative growth because it is difficult to germinate the seeds.
Anthony Brach Ph.D.

Flowers: At blooming time, the stem elongates and enlarges near the apex and
puts forth an inflorescence of small purple or red flowers. The flowers are
pollinated by humming-birds, and these flowers usually develop small, hard
seeds. Seeds are generally not found in commercially grown pineapple
J. Elliott
http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/bot00/bot00592.htm

How pineapple is propagated?

Plants are vegetatively propagated from crowns, or axillary shoots arising from either the base of the fruit (slips) or base of the plant (suckers). Unrooted shoots are placed into the soil and root in situ. The size of the planting material affects production; larger crowns/suckers give the highest yield and reduce time from planting to harvest.

What kind of flowers should I buy these girls?

For Valentines Day, I'd like to buy some flowers for two girls I'm very close to (as friends). Each and every year they complain about how they never get flowers so I thought I'd do a nice thing and surprise them with flowers. What kind of flowers should I buy them and in what color? I'm aware each type of flower and it's color have all these different meanings and I don't want to send the wrong message, especially since I know that they know the meanings of flowers lol!

How often should I be watering my garden?

I have tomatoes, zuc, squash, peppers, cucs, sunflowers, and okra. I have been watering the garden every day. Temps are probably in the high 80's, but very humid. I also have a peat moss, garden soil, and a manure mixture, which is probably ok. I have also noticed a little powdery white mold around my stems, i think I can fix this, but am I watering too much, is that what is causing the mold?

Garden best answer:

It sounds like that you are watering too much.Try cutting back to every other day and see if this helps. It should get rid of the white mold also. Are any of the leaves on the plants turning yellow? That can also be a sign of too much water.

In 1952, the walled Morrison Garden was built. It still serves as the hub that unifies the Azalea Collection today. Bricks from a schoolhouse located in what is now the Boxwood Collection were used to construct the walls of this garden and impart a sense of timelessness. As the shrubs matured in the 1950s, locals could not resist the colorful spring beacon of the blooms. Their desire to see the plants led to the opening of the U.S. National Arboretum to the public on a seasonal basis on May 3, 1954.

How do I get my butterfly bush to bloom again? and Teignmouth Blooms Again - 3

How do I get my butterfly bush to bloom again?

We have a butterfly bush planted in the yard. It's really old, planted 20-30 years ago. It used to bloom when I was younger but it hasn't for years. I didn't realize it was a butterfly bush until I was thinking about it the other day and how I remember that so many butterflies used to come to it. It's huge now. My mom didn't know that it is supposed to be cut back each year so I think that might be why it doesn't bloom anymore. It does still get leaves though. Should I cut it short? It's probably around 7-8 feet tall right now. How short should I cut it and how long should I expect it to take to grow and bloom again? The branches are pretty stick-like nowadays but it is still alive.

bloom best answer:

Answer by george nash
If it is fairly high and hasnt been cut in years I would cut it back 1/3 to 1/2. I would go ahead and cut it now. Normally you should cut it back every year just before spring growth begins. You may want to compare pictures on the net with your plant to see if this is the true buterfly bush. You can find a lot of info on how to grow ir=t at that source.

Does it work to grow flowers in half-barrels or tubs? and Flowers in the Shade

Does it work to grow flowers in half-barrels or tubs?

I always wanted to have a flower garden, but because of the location of our house, I can't plant a real garden. I saw these large tub like things at the Home Depot in the gardening section... do these works good for growing flowers? If so, what kinds of flowers? Any special instructions?

Thanks for any help you can give. :)

flower best answer:

Answer by perplexed
Yes, you can make a beautiful pot out of these. A secret is to select some base plants (usually greenery) and stick colorful potted plants amoung them. You can hide the pots with a spagnum moss. You can change out the colors with the seasons. Annuals are not that expensive.

ps: I forgot----you must have drainage. Drill a few holes in the bottom before planting.

how do fruits get food materials ? and Sakura Inflorescence 2

how do fruits get food materials ?

while flowers, which make fruits, have no food; how can fruits contain food materials required by the plant?

inflorescence best answer:

Answer by gardengallivant
The flower is attached to the plant by a stem called a peduncle. This stem has vascular tissue (xylem & phloem) just like all the rest of the plant. When the flower is fertilized the plant begins to supply the ovary with sap by way of the phloem. The ovary matures but the fruit remains attached by its peduncle to the stalk or stem or branch of the plant.
Pedicel is the small end division from a main peduncle; the stalk supporting a single flower in an inflorescence (a group of flowers). The peduncle supports the group of flowers while the pedicel supports each flower in the group. Queen Ann's Lace or wild carrots have a peduncle rise up to where the pedicels split into the umbrel of tiny white flowers.

If the flower has no main stalk but grows directly from the plant it is caulescent. The Redbud tree has flower buds on old growth that are caulescent.

What (if anything) can I put on Iris bulb-beds to make them bloom? and Glenfarg Blooms

What (if anything) can I put on Iris bulb-beds to make them bloom?

I have a huge iris bed that my mother brought to South Carolina nearly 50 years ago from Ohio. I recently began to break up the bed, as the roots and bulbs were so prolific they were sticking up out of the ground. I transplanted some of them, but I still can't get them to bloom,so something must be missing from the soil. Is there anything I can put on the beds to encourage blooms?

bloom best answer:

Answer by bethany
It is ok if the roots stick out of the ground. Iris plants
grow very easily and are not hard to care for. You can look
it up on the internet, by just typing Iris...what do they
need to bloom and you will get enough reading for a month.
Type it in search the web. Good luck
