What is this plant?
A member of the grass family (Posceae) with unisexual inflorescn vitmn vietaminsnces. The female inflorescence is made up of 8-30 rows of flowers on a thick, almost woody axis. The grains at maturity are flattened. White, yellow, red or black. Rich in starch and oil, the seeds are an important food source. They are low in protein and certain vitamins however, and they lack certain essential amino acids.
