What flowers survive best in high temperatures and under constant sunlight.?
I want to plant a mini flower garden, but the spot I want to plant in is under the hot afternoon sun. What types of flowers would survive best?
P.S. I'm in Chicago!
Thanks!

Two of the flowering plants I have that do well in the desert sun and heat are dwarf daylilies (Stella De Oro variety are best because they bloom continuously all season long) and Red Yucca (Hesperaloe). Both produce strikingly beautiful flowers and long slender leaves that are not bothered by the sun's glare. If you want daisy-like eyecatchers, go for gazania and gallairda (blanket flower), both are available in different colors in most garden centers. All three, daylily, gazania and gallairda take high winds too, even when in full boom. Red Yucca however, will need its flowers tied to a stake because those flower stalks get to 5 feet tall and sometimes are top-heavy when decorative fruits appear with the blooms.
